Amphi-van on Taupo cruise

DOMINION POST: ROOFLISS, the amphibious van that crossed the Cook Strait at the beginning of September, was taken out for a “swim” on Lake Taupo yesterday.


Real estate agents Mark Stevenson and Owen Norrish had bought the vehicle for $9100 on TradeMe ten days after the two inventors Dan Melling and Adam Turnbull, both aeronautical machinists, had successfully crossed the Cook Strait for the first time in an amphibious vehicle like that.

Mr Stevenson said the vehicle was a great example of Kiwi ingenuity: “When I saw what these two guys had done, I had to support them.”
